Our much needed Oregon hippie trip was fabulous! We left Wednesday after work around 5pm and drove straight up to Pendleton, OR, stopping for a few restless hours of sleep (?) at a rest stop around 3am. We got "up" at 6am and continued our drive. We drove to the Dalles and took a break to "get the wiggles out" as mom would say. We walked over a bridge crossing the Columbia River and watched as Barges strolled up the river. The temperature was perfect that morning. The sun was shining with a cool breeze to even it out. We stopped at Multnomah Falls (as seen above) and took some pics of the 620-foot waterfall. We had all visited the Fall before, but can't get enough of the picturesque view! We continued our journey up through Portland. What a huge city! I would get lost in a matter of hours if I were driving. There are multiple different freeways that run through that area with lots of large buildings and crowded city life. We crossed the bridge into Vancouver, Washington where we picked up Elder Holgreen and his companion for lunch! I didn't even know it was possible to see a family member missionary while he is in the field, but his mission president gave us permission to spend 3 hours with him and take him to lunch. We had a good visit over a Mexican food lunch and he showed us pictures and shared baptism stories. What a great missionary, we are so pro
ud of him! Next, we traveled back to Portland to the gorgeous Portland temple. Kyle, me and Pa Dogg went through a session while Trevor wandered the temple grounds. (Trevor is only 16) 
Next, we drove to the coast through the scenic woods of Oregon. We found a campsite in an authentic fishing town called Garibaldi. 
It was a foggy evening and we were fortunate enough to hear the sound of ships honking their fog horns in the mist all night. No really, it was cool. We slept well that night after our adventurous day. The next day, we ventured into Tillamook, OR where they make the famous Tillamook cheese! We went through the cheese factory and got fresh ice cream. Then we went to a beef jerky plant and got 1 foot ropes of jerky. yum! So that was our healthy lunch.. :) Next, we took a scenic loop following the coast up to a vintage 
lighthouse and look-out. It was breathtaking. There were cliffs on both sides of us and out on the edge was the lighthouse. Before we walked around the trails, Trevor decided to feed a "friendly" squirrel. We lured him in with bits of string cheese, then got crackers too. Trev was feeding the lil squirt out of his hand when the darn thing leaped toward him and scratched his finger up! It startled all of us since we were crouched down for a closer look. After we made sure the squirrel didn't actually BITE him, we all had a good laugh. 
Then we walked down through some awesome trees with moss on them, to the lighthouse that had a gift shop in it and they let us go up to the top by the light! Next, we drove up to Cannon Beach, then found our next campground. The next morning, we woke up early again and drove up to Seaside to play frisbee on the beach and walk around their cool shops. There was a national sand volleyball tournament going on, so that was cool to watch. It rained off and on and was cloudy and windy, but still radical! Later that day, we drove up through Astoria and went to a car show that was going on, then through Ilwaaco, Long Beach and stopped at our destination in Ocean Park, WA. We visited a childhood friend of Pa Dogg's. She lives only two blocks from the beach and they have bears there! She said they have to take out their garbage an hour before the garbage truck comes so bears don't get into it. Cool! We stayed up watching for bears that night, but to no avail. She has a hot tub outside in her carport that we were SO looking forward to enjoying! But when we got in, it was lukewarm and very disappointing. I stayed in for a while messing with the buttons on the side trying to heat it up, but I just got in a hot shower instead. The next morning, we got up and left by 10am and headed home. It took us about 15 hours to get home including our stops along the way. We stopped at Walkeena Falls and Horsetail Falls. We got home at 3am Monday morning. We had such a blast on our trip and I'm so lucky to have such an awesome father in-law and bro in-law to travel with! We all get along so well and are so easy going.
